Cricket . . .

Last Christmas I was gifted a new 15" Cricket Rigid Heddle Loom.  It is pretty awesome and it has been a so much fun learning to weave!

My loom is stained purple (notice a theme . . .)

. . . and his name is Jiminy.  (Get it . . . it's a cricket . . .  hahaha)

I have made some scarves and even a baby blanket on my little loom.

A gift for a co-worker's new baby boy.

This scarf won 1st place at the AOBA National Alpaca Show (for sale in my Etsy shop of course!)

Hmmmmm . . .

So my list of crafty stuff I do is growing -

Crocheting, Sewing, Spinning, and Weaving!

Yay!

Oh, and of course I dye fiber and yarn too!

More on that later . . .

13 in 2013 Challenge

So, I teased this in another post.  What is the 13 in 2013 Challenge? In a nutshell, I have challenged myself to do 13 of certain crafty things in 2013.  (Ha!  I should have challenged myself to write 13 blog posts in 2013! Hahahaha!)

My challenges/goals for 2013 are:

-To weave 13 projects on my Cricket loom (wait . . . she has a loom too??!?!?!?)

-Spin 13,000 feet of yarn

-Crochet 13,000 feet of yarn

Whew!

As of the end of July, I have:

-Woven 5 projects

-Spun 7518 feet of yarn

-Crocheted 21,963 feet of yarn  - - I met my crocheting goal back in April.  :-D

Here are pic collages of what I've done so far.  Hopefully by the end of August I'll have completed a couple more weaving projects and spun some more yarn.

Tour de Fleece 2013

What, I suppose you are asking, is the Tour de Fleece?

The Tour de Fleece (TdF) is an event on Ravelry where you spin fiber into yarn during the Tour de France.

I participated last year, but only spun two skeins of yarn.  Last year I was spinning on a Little Meggie kick spindle which, although enjoyable, is on the slow side.

This spring I was able to purchase an e-spinner (electric spinning wheel) from Heavenly Handspinning.  I purchased the Vespera, and I am loving spinning on it.

Here is my Vespera.  I stained her purple, and her name is Veronica.

This year for TdF I spun 13 skeins of yarn!

Here is a collage of all the yarn I spun this year for TdF!

I am still a heavy worsted to bulky weight spinner, but that is okay.  I like crocheting and weaving with that weight of yarn.  I don't really like crocheting with lace weight yarn, so I probably won't ever spin much lace weight yarn (but never say never because things might change!)  With practice, I would like to eventually be able to consistently spin sport/DK weight yarn since that is what I seem to use the most when I craft.

I didn't spin any alpaca during the tour.  I decided to spin a bunch of sheep wools that are gathering like a huge outrageous herd in my stash.  So I spun some BFL (Blue Faced Leicester), superwash BFL, merino, superwash merino, 80/20 merino/silk, falkland, polwarth, and targhee.  So far my favorite sheep breed to spin is BFL, whether it be BFL, superwash, variegated, or mixed with silk.  I also really enjoyed spinning the targhee.  The targhee was not as soft as some of the others, but it poofed up nice and fluffy after it was given a bath to set the twist.

I hope to get some more spinning time in before the end of the year.  I need to in order to meet my 13 in 2013 goals! (That is a post for another day!)

P.S.  If you want to check me out on Ravelry, my Rav name is jenandoles.

A Clucky Update!!!!

Clucky is almost 17 months old!  He is toddling around like crazy!

He is doing great.  We are finally on the chart for height at the 3rd percentile.  We are not yet on the chart for weight, but that is okay.

He is walking everywhere that he can, and he is just full of energy!

He is definitely keeping us busy!

I think he wore himself out!

Enjoying the waterfall at Grand Portage State Park.

It's a GIRL!

Yay!  Another female cria!  On July 21st, Bella gave us another beautiful baby girl!  We have named her Leia.  She is just as soft and crimpy as her sister from last year, Lena.  (I know, Leia, Lena, it might get confusing sometimes, but bear with me!)

Only hours old!

She's a cutie!

With proud mom, Bella.

It's hard to be so cute!

Another update on our herd . . . we have sold our fiber male, Lars.  He has gone to live on another farm in SE MN.  He is going to be one of two fiber/companion males.  He will be missed but he will have a fun life on his new farm with his new friend.

I know I haven't blogged in quite awhile, but hey, I have a little man toddling around the house now, so I've been busy!

But . . .

Look for new blog posts every Sunday in August and September!  Wahoo!
